Ministry to the Elderly of Greenisland (MEG)

Our Mission Statement is to show God's love in practical ways to the elderly members within the Greenisland community, by means of:

• Befriending
• Visiting
• Caring
• Listening
• Chatting
• Sharing
• Doing and ministering in Christ's name.

Caring is a Christian responsibility. Jesus demonstrated the practical heart of the servant throughout his life on earth. Greenisland Baptist Church have endeavoured to follow his example in this. There are many in our community with needs, concerns and who struggle with loneliness. The aim of MEG involves seeking to meet these needs where possible. Over the past year, MEG have been involved in visitation to the individual homes of elderly people and to nursing homes within the community. These times usually involve chatting and listening with those involved. Where the need has arisen, MEG have been able to assist in other ways, such as providing transport to appointments.

More recently, MEG have undertaken to conduct services 1 Sunday per month in local nursing homes. This began after a number of people expressed regret that they could no longer go to church. The thinking behind these services was that, instead, we could bring church to them. These times usually involve singing, bible readings, prayer, testimony and a short message. In addition, at key times during the year events have been organised such as at Christmas and Easter. Transport has been provided for those who want to attend and the events are usually held at the church. They are advertised both by members of the MEG team and through the nursing homes.
