OUR PURPOSE:
Growing disciples of Jesus who love God
and love people

Our purpose incorporates 2 key elements from Jesus’ teaching:

The Great Commission - ‘Go and make disciples...’ (Matt. 28:19)
The Great Commandment - ‘Love the Lord your God...love your neighbour’ (Mark 12:30-31)

It is these which determine what we do at Greenisland Baptist Church. Together they give us the primary task and activities that we should focus on. If what we do fulfils some aspect of either the great commission or the great commandment, we do it. If it doesn’t then we avoid it.

Our Values
Our values determine what we are, what we do and how we do it.

Paul commended the Thessalonians as a model church that others could follow. As we seek to be a model church, these are the values we hold.

Maturity
None of us is the finished article yet, and our church will never be the perfect church! Even an apostle like Paul said he had a long way to go and kept ‘pressing toward the goal’ Phil. 3:14. That same commitment to maturity and growth as followers of Jesus will lie at the heart of our church.

Obedience
Jesus said ‘If you love me keep my commands‘. John 14:23. Obeying God should come from an awareness of His character and a desire to worship and serve Him.

Dependence
Jesus said, “apart from me you can do nothing” John 15:5. Nothing of any spiritual significance can happen apart from God. This dependence on God embraces all of life.

Excellence
Paul said ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not people’. Col. 3:23. Therefore, individually and together we strive to do our best, regularly assessing and improving all that we do.

Love
Jesus said ‘As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples.’ John 13:34,35. Love should be the unifying force and the identifying mark of our church; love that reveals itself in action.
