CAP Update - September 2021

We are glad to report the return to face-to-face visits with clients since August 2021.  This requires a few extra phone calls to make sure that the client does not have any Covid symptoms or other illnesses and do a risk assessment, which prolongs the initial first three visits but it’s worth it just to be able to see people face to face.

We had a CAP Sale on Saturday 28th August. This was a great day with open air music by David Kelly and lots of people got a bargain and on the day we raised £805 for CAP.

In the past few months through working in partnership with Acts 435 we have been able to provide; a new cooker for a family in Greenisland/a fridge for a new client who had been keeping her insulin in her neighbours fridge since her fridge broke a few months ago/stair and landing carpet for a local family with four kids who don’t have any carpet in the house they moved into two years ago (due to long term unemployment) the mum said that this bit of carpet has made it feel like a home/a new mattress for a previous disabled client who had been sleeping on a chair for months after the springs on her old mattress had broken through the material.  All of these items were purchased at very little cost to us due to the grants from Acts 435.

As you may remember, the previous Mayor, Peter Johnston had chosen CAP as one of his charities last year.  I attended a cheque presentation on Friday 3rd September along with Wendy Davison (Larne CAP Centre Manager) and John Maxwell (Ballymena CAP Centre Manager) at which time we received a cheque for £2886 (£962 for each cap centre). We had also previously received a cheque for £1000 from Ryobi (£333 for each centre).  It’s great to receive these extra funds for our cap centre but just as important, it has also raised our profile within the community due to the publicity raised by the Mayor.

As furlough ends this month, we are expecting a high volume of new clients in the months ahead. Please pray that people will not wait too long before accessing help as the waiting period adds extra stress and worry. Help is available.

We give thanks to God that an elderly man who had been in receipt of the Covid hampers attended church on Sunday night.  He had watched our church being rebuilt from his flat window and had always said that he would like to “come along sometime”. As he left the building on Sunday night, he said that he would like to come to the morning service next week. Praise God! May this man be the start of many new people coming along as a result of the seeds that were sown during the Covid lockdown period.
